Tjanting in Amara
Named for the tjanting—the copper tool used in batik tulis—this piece carries the same discipline of wax-drawn lines: strokes that widen and taper, pauses where wax might pool, and fields balanced with careful spacing.
The central panel is arranged like a botanical register. Upright lilies, ranunculus, snowdrops, and sprigs of clustered blooms stand as specimens, each given room to breathe. Smaller leaves and secondary florals keep rhythm between anchors, ensuring the field remains ordered and clear when folded.
The border is constructed with a scalloped frame enclosing garlands of vines and blossoms. At each corner, motifs are deliberately denser, anchoring the rectangle and framing the central field with stability.
The Amara palette rests on a parchment base with a cool blue frame. Florals bloom in cerulean, muted red, sage, and soft ivory, with green tracers uniting the tones. The blue border lightens the structure, giving the design a fresh, airy quality compared to earthier tones in the series.
On Korean chiffon, the blue florals and border appear crisp and bright against the parchment. On Soof modal, colours soften into a gentler wash, giving the scarf a quiet, archival finish.
