Description

Named for the tjanting—the copper tool used in batik tulis—this piece translates the steady discipline of wax-drawn lines into textile design. Lines taper and swell, pauses mark the weight of the hand, and motifs are set upright with the clarity of preserved specimens.

The central field is composed like a botanical register: lilies, ranunculus, narcissus-like clusters, and snowdrops arranged in vertical order, with smaller sprigs and rosettes filling the spaces in between. Each motif is given measured distance so that the print stays legible and balanced when folded.

The border is contained by a scalloped band, enclosing a repeat of blossoms and vine-scrolls. Corners are reinforced with denser assemblies, anchoring the rectangular frame and ensuring the design holds its structure.

The Caia palette rests on a soft mint ground with a surrounding ivory frame. Florals are rendered in rose pink, gold, sage green, and muted coral, creating a fresh, light character that feels both botanical and airy.

On Korean chiffon, the mint base appears luminous, with crisp edges and clear definition in the florals. On Soof modal, the tones soften into a gentle wash, giving the scarf an archival, textile-like effect.
